Pokemon Sword and Shield: How to beat Milo in TurfField

The first gym in Pokémon Sword and Shield is against Milo , an easy-to-use grass expert who lives in Turffield . Milo is not too hard since it is the first gym, but if you want to be prepared for your fight, see our guide below.

Milo’s challenge makes you play a little Wooloo in pens. Just run to the Wooloo and they will get away from you. Be careful of the blocking obstacles that will cause the Wooloo to roll in different directions. There will also be some little fry weed trainers on your way. They should not be very difficult, as long as you bring a type of fire, flight or insect. After you finish carrying your Wooloo, you will climb the stairs and face Milo.

Milo uses two Pokémon and they both have pure grass typing. Eldegoss will use Gigantamax after throwing it away, so save your Dynamax until Eldegoss comes out. Dynamaxing to counteract its own Gigantamax will help you avoid being hit too hard and will help you cause more damage to Eldegoss.

  • Gossifleur, level 19, grass
  • Eldegoss, level 20, grass

Milo’s grass-type Pokémon are weak against fire, flying and insect-type Pokémon, so any of them will be useful.

If you didn’t start with Scorbunny, Milo can be a challenge. Here are some good Pokémon to catch and evolve for this gym, as well as the easiest places to find them:

  • Woobat, psychic and flying type. Found in the Galar mine
  • Vulpix, fire type. Found on Route 3 and the wild area in sunny weather
  • Rookidee, flying guy. Found on routes 1, 2 and 3
  • Caterpie, insect type. Found on route 1

After being Milo, you will be rewarded with TM10, Magical Leaf, as well as a version of the grass-type uniform to use outside the gym’s challenges. You can also catch Pokémon up to level 25.
