Mew, the creator of Mewtwo, is available in Pokémon Sword & Shield, although you won’t find Mew in the Galar Pokedex. This makes Mew one of the weirder outliers you can add to your Pokemon collection, and there are only a handful of ways to get one. You won’t find Mew anywhere in Galar, but it’s definitely possible to track down this cute little guy. Unfortunately, it won’t be evolving into Mewtwo any time soon.
Next, we’ll go over all the ways you can capture Mew. This ancient Pokémon is one of the most powerful and legendary in the entire series. Mew is the latest Pokedex entry for the Kanto region and a secret Pokémon found in Pokémon Red & Blue, the first games in the long-running series. Mew is the ultimate hidden Pokemon, and there are two ways to get it here, neither of which involve anything in-game
Pokemon Sword and Shield: How to Get Mew
It’s possible to get one of the most classic Pokémon, Mew, in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but players will need a certain accessory to do so.
How to get Mew
Like I said, to get Mew at the launch of Sword and Shield, you need a Poke Ball Plus. If you remember when this device was released along with Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, it came with a Mew hidden inside. If you’ve tapped it by then, your Mew is gone…or at least it’s in your Let’s Go Pokedex and can’t be exported (at least until Home is released). So for now, you should have a new, non-transferred Mew in your Poke Ball Plus. If you have it, read on to see how to integrate it into Sword and Shield.
Once in your game, press X to bring up the menu, then choose Mystery Gift. From there, choose the Walk with Poke Ball Plus option. This will connect to the device, so follow the instructions on the screen. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be notified that Mew is in and you’ll be able to transfer it to your Sword and Shield game. And this is how to get Mew in Pokemon Sword and Shield. A simple process, but unfortunately somewhat dependent on the add-on as of now. Let’s hope that changes once Home arrives.
How to Unlock Mew
An accessory you need to unlock Mew is the Poke Ball Plus accessory. For players who bought it a long time ago when Pokemon Let’s Go! Eevee and go! Pikachu was released a year ago, you can use this same Poke Ball Plus accessory to unlock it.
If you’re still lucky enough to find the Poke Ball accessory, it’s available for $50 or bundled with a copy of Let’s Go! Pikachu or Let’s go! Eevee.
